Why did the film on my friend’s car turn yellow but mine is still clear.

Last weekend my friend and I parked our cars side by side at a cafe, and I noticed something odd. We both put clear film on the front of our cars about three years ago, but his white Nissan Patrol has a creamy yellow tint on the hood, while my grey Toyota Fortuner still looks perfectly clear. He was a bit embarrassed and asked me if I had paid for something special. I did not know what to say, because we both park outside and both drive on the same highways every day. My brother says it is pure luck and that every film turns yellow sooner or later in this heat. My neighbor says it depends on the quality of the material, and that cheap film has a coating that breaks down in strong sun. A friend at work told me the way you wash it matters too, because harsh soap, old wax and dirt stuck on the edges can make a clear film look yellow even when the film itself is fine. Another colleague said a white car simply shows the tint faster, so my grey paint may be hiding it. I read a page on last night to understand what happens to the film, and it explained how heat, strong UV, the grade of the material and poor care can each play a part, which made me see there is no single answer. Since then I have been trying to find the Genuine reasons PPF turns yellow in the UAE, because I want to protect mine for as long as I can and also help my friend decide what to do. My questions are easy. Did you notice yellowing early or only after a few summers? Does washing with the wrong products really speed it up?
